Reggie Jackson Trade Rumors: Latest Buzz, Speculation Surrounding Thunder PG

Oklahoma City Thunder are fighting for their playoff lives as the second half of this season gets ready to begin, but the front office appears to have an issue brewing with guard Reggie Jackson. According to Wojnarowski, Jackson’s agent has asked the Thunder front office to deal his client before the trade deadline:

The agent for Oklahoma City guard Reggie Jackson has asked general manager Sam Presti to trade his client before Thursday’s NBA deadline, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

CAA’s Aaron Mintz made the request in the past seven to 10 days, and several teams around the league became aware as officials probed for information on potentially dealing for Jackson, league sources said.

The relationship between Jackson and the Thunder has been fragile for a long time. He’s 24 years old and wants to be a starter, though that’s hard to do in Oklahoma City with Russell Westbrook ahead of him on the depth chart.

Jackson was asked about his future in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, via Royce Young of ESPN:

In November, Darnell Mayberry of The Oklahoman reported that Jackson was telling people during a shootaround that he was “just trying to play my role while I’m here.”

The Thunder are a half-game behind Phoenix for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, so trading a valuable bench piece who averages 12.8 points and 4.2 assists per game may not be the best way to handle things.

Sometimes, though, the player’s unhappiness can have a negative effect on the rest of the team. Oklahoma City just has to figure out if Jackson’s desire to leave outweighs his value on the floor for the rest of this season.
